The Druden-Born is a spring near Mendt in Rhineland-Palatinate . Their water is fed via the Oberscheider Bach to the Hanfbach , whose source is about 300 m to the north and which flows into the Sieg near Hennef .
Origin of name
The name of the source is made up of the words Drude (in the old German concept actually " virgin " or " priestess ", but also " goblin ") and Born ("source, fountain ").
Historical
In 1567 the source is mentioned for the first time as "Druden-Born" during the border inspection of the Irmerother Bitze. 400 years later the source was redrawn. Previously it was located in the fields about 100 m north of the current spring and consisted of several rivulets. The new spring pours out about 1 cubic meter of water per hour.
Legend
According to legend , the source takes its name from the following incident: In the early Middle Ages, a priest of the chapel in Ütgenbach was insulted by a drude during a mass, whereupon he threw the drude out of his chapel. In front of the church, the Drude cursed devilishly and bewitched the priest. From then on, the priest suffered from illness and insomnia. He was lying down and things went downhill with him. Members of the community brought the priest water from the Hanfbach spring because it was known at the time for pouring out healing water. Soon the priest felt better and recovered. Since then the spring has been called "Druden-Born".
