Domenika Ahlrichs (born April 30, 1973 ) is a German journalist. From August 1, 2007 to December 31, 2009 she was editor-in-chief of the Netzeitung . Afterwards she was deputy editor-in-chief of ZEIT Online from 2011 to the end of 2015 . At the beginning of 2016, she became deputy editor-in-chief responsible for Wired Germany's online offering . Ahlrichs left journalism in January 2018 and has been working as a primary school teacher in the state of Berlin ever since.

Life

Domenika Ahlrichs, the daughter of a pastor and great-granddaughter of Theodor Ahlrichs , originally wanted to become a pastor or teacher in addition to journalism as a professional goal. She studied American and German at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and at Wesleyan University in the USA. She completed her studies as a Magistra . She received her journalistic training in 2001/2002 as a trainee at the Evangelical School of Journalism in Berlin, where she now also works as a lecturer.

She came into contact with the Netzeitung through an internship during her training at the Protestant School of Journalism. She worked for the Frankfurter Rundschau , Spiegel Online and the Kulturradio of rbb . For the online newspaper, she initially worked as a freelancer from 2003 onwards. In August 2005 she took over the position of head of the service and in April 2006 became deputy to the editor-in-chief and Netzeitung founder Michael Maier , who left at the end of 2006. Domenika Ahlrichs was appointed sole editor-in-chief of the Netzeitung in August 2007 as the successor to the temporary dual editors-in-chief Michael Angele and Matthias Ehrlert . This activity ended with the conversion of the Netzeitung into an automated news portal at the end of 2009.

From January 2008 to July 2009 she was also a member of the editor-in-chief of the Berliner Zeitung . She helped develop a new online presence for the newspaper. On February 1, 2011, she became deputy editor-in-chief of Zeit Online . She left the editorial team of Zeit Online in December 2015 and was replaced by Maria Exner. Ahlrichs has been the deputy editor-in-chief of the German edition of the US magazine Wired since January 4, 2016 .

In 2008 she was a member of the jury for the award of the WebFish , the award of the joint venture of Protestant journalism and the EKD for "particularly successful Christian Internet offers ".

She describes her job as a journalist as a “dream job”. She said of tabloid journalism: “Bad tabloid journalism turns me off when I see how people deal with the fate of people. I don't want to see that at all. ”She mentions Frank Plasberg as a journalistic role model - with reservations, since his political program Hart but fair has been broadcast on the first program .

She is one of the supporters of the Charter of Fundamental Digital Rights of the European Union , which was published at the end of November 2016.
