Theodor Ahlrichs

Theodor Christian Hermann Ahlrichs (born March 9, 1866 in Oldorf ; † May 26, 1937 in Bremen ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and from 1907 to 1935 pastor of the town parish in Delmenhorst . He was the father-in-law of the later state superintendent Johannes Schulze ; the German journalist Domenika Ahlrichs is his great-granddaughter .

Life

Ahlrichs completed his Abitur at the Mariengymnasium in Jever and studied Protestant theology in Berlin and Greifswald from 1890 . He passed his exam on February 6, 1894, on March 4, 1894, he was ordained as assistant preacher and took up the position of vacant preacher in Oldenburg . From 1895 he was assistant preacher in Easter Castle . He lived there with his wife Auguste Lisette Lina Ahlrichs (née Cordes) on Ulmenstrasse. Their daughter Elisa Henriette Auguste Paula was born in Easter Castle in 1896. In May 1897 Ahlrichs received the position of the third pastor in Eutin . His two other children, Hans-Heinrich (1899), who also became a pastor, and Irmgard Franziska Elisabeth (1902), who married Johannes Schulze in 1926, were also born in Eutin.

After a guest sermon that he held on September 15, 1907 in the town church in Delmenhorst, Ahlrichs was unanimously elected second pastor on September 29, 1907 in the presence of the senior church councilor Johannes Ramsauer from Oldenburg by the 167 members of the community assembly present. His inauguration took place on December 15, 1907.

The second pastor of the community had the following tasks: the inner mission, the hospital pastoral care and the children's services , which were very important to Ahlrichs. The latter experienced a level of involvement that fellow ministers can only dream of today. Hundreds of children populated regularly on Sundays at 14 o'clock, the town church to the Holy Trinity . Ahlrichs was supported by a large group of helpers.

Every year he organized excursions on the Tuesday before Ascension Day . Following a prayer service in the town church, the pastor, parents and up to 800 children took a special train to Schierbrok and hiked on to Stenum from there . These excursions were very popular and were usually financially supported by donations from the Lahusen family .

Ahlrichs also headed the mission association, and in 1920 he introduced a weekly Bible study. In 1932 he was able to celebrate his 25 years as a pastor in Delmenhorst, and on October 1, 1935, he retired.

Theodor Ahlrichs died on May 26, 1937 in the Willehadhaus hospital for the Red Cross, today's Red Cross Hospital Bremen . He was buried on May 31, 1937 in Delmenhorst.

Anecdotes

The fact that Ahlrichs was popular with his community can be seen from the various anecdotes that circulated about him. Among other things, it was reported that one night after the First World War, the pastor's chickens were stolen, which angered his parishioners. It became known, however, that the thieves had left a piece of paper at the crime scene with the slogan “God is everywhere, just not in Pastor Ahlrich's hen house” , which made many Delmenhorsters smile despite the fact.
