from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang KL Ruck is a German chemist and professor of environmental chemistry at the University of Lüneburg .

Life

After graduating from high school, Ruck studied chemistry at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Gymnasium in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt with a specialization in water chemistry at the University of Stuttgart and graduated in 1974. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Waste Management at the University of Stuttgart until 1993, where he did his doctorate. In 1993 he was appointed professor for chemistry and environmental analysis at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences and in 1997 he moved to Lüneburg. From 2000 to 2010 he was dean of the environmental sciences department, from 2010 to 2012 of the “Faculty of Sustainability” at the University of Lüneburg, and from 2004 to 2010 he was the head of the program for environmental sciences.

Wolfgang Ruck is married and has children.

Research and Teaching

Wolfgang Ruck works on various research projects with environmental chemistry topics:

  • Sampling in water, soil, contaminated sites and waste
  • Analysis of heavy metals
  • Analysis of organic substances such as toxicologically relevant PAH metabolites and accompanying substances, hetero-PAH and substituted ones
  • PAH, analysis of pesticides, organochlorine compounds
  • analytical environmental monitoring
  • Adsorption of organic compounds on activated carbon
  • Studies on the subject of energy and the environment, especially in the field of heat storage.

Ruck has work experience in wastewater treatment (sewage treatment works in Stuttgart) and brings this to the teaching. He teaches in the environmental science courses (B.Sc. and MA) at the University of Lüneburg.

politics

From 1983 to 1993 Ruck was a member of the Ditzingen municipal council for the SPD and chairman of the local SPD association until 1992.
