The Sparkasse Eichstätt was a public-law savings bank with its headquarters in Eichstätt . The business area of the Sparkasse corresponded to that of the old district of Eichstätt and the city of Eichstätt itself. On January 1, 2017, it merged with Sparkasse Ingolstadt to become Sparkasse Ingolstadt Eichstätt .
organization structure
The Sparkasse Eichstätt was an institution under public law. The legal bases were the Savings Banks Act , the Bavarian Savings Banks Code and the statutes issued by the Sparkasse owner . The organs of the Sparkasse are the board of directors and the administrative board.
History of the Sparkasse Eichstätt
The early years until 1900
With royal approval and the approval of the city of Eichstätt, the pawnshop owner Euchar Adam opened the first counters of the "Sparkassa" in the region on Monday, November 24th, 1823 . This was announced in the "Eichstätter Intellektivenblatt" no. 47 of November 19, 1823 and announced the purpose of the foundation and the regulations. As early as June 30, 1824, the magistrate published a balance sheet with a deposit portfolio, which promoted the increase in savings and was successfully implemented by the citizens. On May 23, 1834, Euchar Adam resigned from the business at his own request, so that the administration of the Sparkasse took over the Principality of Eichstätt from that point on . Even less well-off people of any class were not excluded from the formation of savings. From January 1, 1876, the Reich currency was the mark.
Further development of the Sparkasse Eichstätt
After the turn of the century, when the first savings and loan associations were founded in the Eichstätt district, the Sparkasse began building up its branch network. New savings banks were founded around the region and the deposit portfolio reached the 2 million mark in July 1903 with steadily increasing deposits. On October 22, 1910, the Sparkasse Eichstätt joined the establishment of the Central Franconian Savings Bank Association following a resolution by the Magistrate Council.
Despite the outbreak of the First World War, the assets and deposits of the Sparkasse Eichstätt developed largely positively in 1913 with a value of over 3 million Reichsmarks . However, with the assassination attempt in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, the decline in deposits became noticeable, as a wave of withdrawals followed. In the following years from 1917 onwards, cashless transfers were introduced, but in the following years this had to exceed the amount of 1,000 marks - the obvious inflation made itself felt.
A new era for Sparkasse Eichstätt began on April 1, 1926, when the move to a new and larger building was completed. The number of current accounts, the turnover and the existence of passbooks in the population increased more and more in the current years. It was not until the Second World War that drastic changes were brought about by the calling-up of male personnel for the war, so temporary workers were required to cope with business transactions. Due to the currency reform in 1948, the Deutsche Mark came into force and the conversion of the credit balance on the accounts meant that residents around Eichstätt stood in line at the banks. The promotion of school savings gained more and more importance from 1950. Since then, Sparkasse Eichstätt has been actively involved in school savings and promotes this with a world savings week around World Savings Day on October 31. The aim is and was to promote the idea of savings.
This idea continued to have an important meaning in the years to come, because the Sparkasse letter was first offered in 1967 in the Sparkasse Eichstätt. The territorial reform of September 1, 1973 created larger administrative units. This was followed by the merger, the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Eichstätt and the Sparkasse Beilngries .
On January 1, 2017, after successful negotiations, the Sparkasse Eichstätt merged with Sparkasse Ingolstadt through the legal merger. This created the new Sparkasse Ingolstadt Eichstätt. On March 18 and 19, 2017, the so-called technical merger finally brought together the databases and customer accounts of both companies.
Sparkassenstiftung and Sparkasse Idea Workshop
The Sparkasse Eichstätt had a savings bank foundation that supported the district of Eichstätt and its associations and schools with donations. In addition, it financed larger projects that can benefit the communities around the Eichstätt district through the Sparkasse idea workshop. The Sparkasse supported the schools in the business area with the SchulService.
