The Pörtschach ATP tournament (officially Hypo Group Tennis International ) was the first of three annual ATP tournaments in Austria from 2006 to 2008 . Since it always took place in the run-up to the French Open and was played on clay, this competition could be seen as a preparatory tournament for the French Open. Incidentally, the same balls, nets, lines and the same sand as at the French Open were played. In 2009 the tournament was held in Kitzbühel , although Ion Țiriac had revoked the Gamsstadt's license. The tournament finally took place with a license from Tournament Director Ronnie Leitgeb .

history

The previous events of the tournament took place in Italy, from 1981 to 1989 in Bari and from 1990 to 1993 in Genoa . The tournament finally moved to St. Pölten , where it was held from 1994 to 2005. The name of the tournament has changed several times over the years. Until 2004 it was still called Raiffeisen - Grand-Prix St. Pölten, in 2005 it was renamed BTM Power Grand Prix . From 2006 to 2008 it was held in Pörtschach and was called Hypo Group Tennis International . The tournament ran as part of the ATP World Series or its successor, the ATP International Series , both predecessors of the ATP World Tour 250 .

Record winners of the tournament are Nikolai Dawydenko and Marcelo Ríos , each with three titles. If you include the previous tournaments in Bari and Genoa, the Austrian Thomas Muster is the record winner with four titles. In doubles, the Czech Petr Pála is also the record winner with three titles.
