Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga
Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga OSIoHieros (* December 8, 1540 in Palermo , † December 23, 1591 in Rome ) was the son of Count Ferrante I Gonzaga of Guastalla and cardinal since 1578 .
Life
His mother was Isabella von Capua († September 17, 1559), a daughter of Prince Ferdinand von Molfetta. His brother was the Cardinal Francesco II Gonzaga and his uncle Ercole Gonzaga .
Giovanni Vincenzo was a Knight of the Order of Malta and Prior of Barletta .
Pope Gregory XIII created Gonzaga in the consistory of February 21, 1578 cardinal and appointed him in November of the same year cardinal deacon of San Giorgio in Velabro , from 1583 of Santa Maria in Cosmedin . 1585 he was retaining the pro illa vice to the titular church gathered Title Diakonie to Cardinal priests appointed.
On August 7, 1587, he was by Pope Sixtus V. Cardinal Priest of the titular church of San Alessio appointed. Cardinal Gonzaga was a participant in the conclaves of 1585 , September 1590 , October / December 1590 and 1591 .
Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga died in Rome and was buried in the local church of San Alessio .
