Francesco II Gonzaga (Cardinal)
Francesco II Gonzaga (born December 6, 1538 in Palermo , † January 6, 1566 in Rome ) was the son of Count Ferrante I Gonzaga of Guastalla and cardinal since 1561 .
His mother was Isabella of Capua († September 17, 1559), a daughter of Duke Ferdinand of Termoli .
After his law studies, priesthood in Guastalla and Commendatar Abbot of Acquanegra , Pope Pius IV raised him in the consistory of February 25, 1561 to cardinal deacon with the titular church of San Nicola in Carcere Tulliano . In 1562 he was elected Archbishop of Cosenza , but due to his age, he was only the administrator of the diocese. He then became bishop of Mantua in 1565 .
During the conclave of 1565/1566 Francesco died and was buried in the church of San Lorenzo in Lucina .
