Ferrante I. Gonzaga
Ferrante I. Gonzaga (born January 28, 1507 in Mantua , † November 15, 1557 in Brussels ) from the Gonzaga family was the third son of Margrave Francesco II Gonzaga of Mantua and Isabella d'Este .
He made a military career, made it to the rank of general Emperor Charles V and was appointed Viceroy of Sicily by him in 1536 . He gave up this office in 1546 in favor of the Lieutenancy of Milan , which he held until 1555. Under the name Príncipe de Molfetta , he was Charles V's ambassador to Henry VIII of England in 1543 .
Ferrante Gonzaga bought the county of Guastalla in 1539 . In 1529 he married Isabella von Capua († September 17, 1559), the daughter of Prince Ferdinand von Molfetta. With her he had several children, including Francesco II Gonzaga , Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga and Cesare I Gonzaga , who was made Duke of Amalfi .
