The Bergen Commandery is an estate in the village of Bergen, part of the city of Wanzleben-Börde .

history

The estate in the previously existing village of Bergen came into the possession of the Teutonic Order in 1272, according to other information in 1285 , which established a commandery here. From 1570 Hans von Lossow lived here as Commander. During the Thirty Years' War the estate was temporarily Swedish , but then came back into the possession of the order. The order remained the owner until 1806. After changing owners, the estate belonged to the Rabbethge sugar manufacturer from around 1900. The manor is still privately owned today.

architecture

The large estate is surrounded by a wall. Access from the village is through a portal that was probably built in the 18th century. The oldest still preserved part of the manor complex is the late Romanesque / early Gothic Bergen manor chapel .

Immediately to the east of the chapel is a two-storey building with a basement. The upper floor is built in half-timbered construction. The house was built by Hans von Lochow as the Komtur's residential building. The tower on the east side of the house is striking. This was originally a bay window that was raised by two half-timbered floors and crowned with a small lantern . An inscription refers to the year 1586.

Pigeon tower from 1843

To the west of the chapel is a two-story, two-winged house from the 18th century in the Baroque style . A plaque dated 1579 is located above a door in the south wing. It shows the coat of arms of Hans von Lossow held by angels. The panel probably comes from a previous building.

The very spacious courtyard was originally made up of various farm buildings. The core of the buildings dating from around 1600, such as barns and stables on the south side, had been rebuilt several times and ultimately demolished in the last decades of the 20th century. Farm buildings from the 19th century have been preserved on the north side. The mighty pigeon tower built in 1843 dominates this area .
