The Itaparica ATP tournament (officially Sul America Open , most recently Citibank Open ) was a men's tennis tournament that was held on the Brazilian island of Itaparica in 1982 and then from 1986 to 1990 . The games were played on outdoor hard courts. The tournament last ran as part of the ATP World Series , the predecessor of the ATP World Tour 250 . In 1991 the tournament was replaced in the tour calendar by the Banespa Open in São Paulo .

Local players could only win the tournament in doubles (1982 Givaldo Barbosa & João Soares and 1990 Mauro Menezes & Fernando Roese ). In the individual, a Brazilian reached the final with Luiz Mattar , but he failed because of the young Andre Agassi ; it was the first title of his long professional career. Mats Wilander won his last tournament on the ATP Tour at Itaparica . In singles, no player could win the tournament more than once, in doubles Sergio Casal and Emilio Sánchez are record holders with two wins.
