occupation

A television film from the crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF is up to its neck in the dirt . The film was produced by WDR and broadcast for the first time on June 9, 1991. It is the 244th episode in the crime scene series and the 27th with Inspector Schimanski .

action

Schimanski uses his vacation for a motorcycle tour in the country. Even his search for a campsite proves to be difficult because of the hostile rural population. A village police officer advises him that he needs a fishing license . He saves Silke, daughter of the farmer Faber, after she was thrown from her horse into the lake.

He brings her home and on his return finds his tent run over. So he quartered himself in the village inn and met hostile farmers. Silke invites him to her hen party , where he meets her fiancé, the vet Dr. Karl-Heinz Ascher, who has obviously drunk beyond his thirst. The next morning the groom does not show up for the wedding and Schimanski finds him hanging on the tree not far from his tent.

Silke is convinced that he was killed because Ascher had no intention of suicide . The body is autopsied and it turns out that he was murdered. Schimanski can persuade his colleague Thanner to investigate the case more closely in the country. Upon entering the veterinary practice, they can put out a set fire and find documents that prove that Ascher prescribed increased doses of animal hormones to the farmers in order to secure their financial situation vis-à-vis the buyers. Thanner has the police and veterinarians check the cows for increased doses of build-up hormones and transport the animals away after the positive result. The farmers are naturally negative about this, as it ruins them. But farmer Faber's cows disappeared before the expropriation. It turns out that as a future father-in-law Faber was treated preferentially by Ascher and he had the opportunity to get more money for his meat than the other farmers. This is exactly what the Fabers have made unpopular with the village community, along with previous friction.

As a final consequence, one evening in Schimanski's and Thanner's presence, the farmers besiege Faber's farm to settle accounts with Faber. Faber's son Gustav starts a shootout and there are injured. It is noticeable that Faber's groom Franz withdraws from the scene. Schimanski follows him and it becomes clear to him that the joke on the hen party with Ascher was only the pretext to kill him. The servant confesses to the murder for low motives. On the one hand, he wanted revenge on the Fabers because of his tragic family history; on the other hand, Ascher had to die because he wanted to build a swimming pool in the house where he was born.
