action

The flight attendant Lilo arrives in her hometown of Berlin and stops at her mother Eva-Maria's pub . She warmly welcomes her ex-boyfriend Harry Breitzke there. His friend Karla reacts jealously and warns Lilo to keep her hands off Harry, which she laughs off and dances with Harry in front of Karla's eyes during the evening. When Karla then physically attacks Lilo, Eva-Maria throws Karla out. During the night Lilo receives an ominous call and leaves the house again. Meanwhile, Harry returns to the pub. The next morning, Chief Inspector Franz Markowitz was called to the site of a corpse, and Lilo was found murdered. Markowitz is shocked because Lilo is his daughter. Markowitz is officially withdrawn from the case because of his personal concern. His assistants Gerber and Pohl still inform Markowitz that Lilo was not killed at the site, she was taken there from the scene of the crime, the perpetrator must have known that she lived nearby and obviously wanted to cover up traces. Shortly before the Wall was built, Markowitz had separated from his wife in the eastern part of the city; he went to West Berlin, while Eva-Maria stayed in the east with their daughter Lilo. Lilo had fled through the Spree to West Berlin ten years ago, and Markowitz has been in contact with her again since then.

Markowitz visits his ex-wife in their pub and brings her the bad news. He also gets to know the employee Harry. Gerber reminds Markowitz that he is on leave, but Markowitz interrogates his ex-wife and Harry. Eva and Harry cannot give Markowitz any information, Eva reproaches Markowitz because Lilo fled to the West because of him. He also left her with the child when he went to the West. Meanwhile, Harry warns his friend Karla that she will be questioned by the police about the scuffle with Lilo. Karla reacts nervously. Unimpressed by his leave of absence, Markowitz visits his old friend Brialzik, who was a kind of foster father for Lilo. He works for Eva and was there the night before. From him Markowitz learns that Harry wanted to flee together with Lilo at the time, but Harry was arrested and sat for years for "escaping the republic ". Nevertheless, they continued their relationship for years beyond the wall, but after the fall of the wall, Lilo had broken up, they had continued to have an affair. While Harry wants to move abroad, Markowitz is surprised that Harry, as a “republic refugee”, had the opportunity to travel to Budapest and meet Lilo there. Harry gives up his plan to escape, meanwhile Markowitz asks Karla, who says that she was with Harry all night. Harry goes to Eva and admits that he worked with the Stasi to see Lilo again. That was the only way he was allowed to meet her in Budapest when she came there as a flight attendant. He assures Eva that he doesn't know who killed Lilo.

In Eva's pub, which Markowitz visits again that evening, he learns from a blind woman from the neighborhood that on the night of the murder she heard the beep of a clock, which sounds like the beeping of Brialzik's clock. On the night Eva studied the Brialziks Stasi - Act has found Markowitz on. She secretly steals his service weapon and tells him that Lilo and Harry had worked for the Stasi. Brialzik calls Harry in the middle of the night and insists on a meeting. Meanwhile, Markowitz notices the loss of his weapon after Eva's departure. Eva left him a note stating that Harry was supposed to be the culprit, but Markowitz notices the ruse based on the earring from Lilo that Eva left behind, which he had previously found in Brialzik's car and concludes from this that Eva Brialzik is involved in the murder Lilo wants to kill. Eva visits Brialziks in her pub, she now knows that Brialzik worked for the Stasi, betrayed Lilos and Harry's escape and then forced them to work for the Stasi in order to be able to meet again. Markowitz rushes to Eva's pub with Gerber, while Brialzik confesses everything to Eva without remorse. However, he asserts that he did not want to kill Lilo. She fell unhappily at their nightly meeting. At this moment Harry and Karla enter the pub, Brialzik uses the moment to take the gun from Eva. When Markowitz arrives, Brialzik flees into the cellar and shoots himself.
