Helmut Stauss

Helmut Stauss (born July 3, 1948 in Cologne ; † May 23, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German actor , theater director , caricaturist and author .

Life

Stauss studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Berlin (later University of the Arts ) at the Max Reinhardt School for Drama . He then studied theater and German at the Free University of Berlin . After completing his studies, he first worked as an assistant director at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin and then as an actor at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin with Kurt Hübner . Freelance work as a director on various stages, such as The Imaginary Sick in the Schlossparktheater Berlin and at the Hamburger Kammerspiele followed. From 1980 he also worked as a cartoonist. On television, Stauss played roles in Derrick , Der Alte , Tatort and Schimanski, among others . In 1999 he portrayed Harry Dember in the feature film Klemperer - A Life in Germany based on Victor Klemperer's diary entries . In the US film Operation Walküre - The Stauffenberg Assassination with Tom Cruise in the lead role, he played the role of Nazi judge Roland Freisler . Under the pseudonym Teodoro Lim, Stauss published a number of historical detective novels, a volume of short stories and an autobiography.

Helmut Stauss last lived in Berlin and was married to actress Yvonne Brüning since 1993.
