Mukařov (German until 1945 Mukarschow ) is a municipality with 172 inhabitants in Okres Mladá Boleslav , Czech Republic . It includes three villages right on the edge of the former Ralsko military training area .

geography

The three villages Mukařov, Borovice and Vicmanov are located above the valley of the Zábrdka river , 6 to 12 kilometers from the town of Mnichovo Hradiště . Neighboring places are in the east and north Jivina , Neveklovice and Strážiště . In a north-westerly direction, the municipality borders on the disbanded military restricted area of Ralsko, which is largely uninhabited.

history

In 1352 Mukařov was first mentioned as a village with a parish church. The parish existed until the 17th century. It was re-established in 1854. Until 1945 the villages were on the Czech-German language border. The former German-speaking neighboring towns in the west were cleared and leveled in 1947 for the military training area. Mukařov was henceforth at the end of a dead end; the highway was closed to civilians. Although the villages themselves were outside the restricted area, they were still endangered during military exercises. The contamination from unexploded ammunition has not yet been completely eliminated. Since the withdrawal of the Soviet armed forces in 1991, the road between Mukařov and Mimoň has been reopened. The place serves as a starting point for bike tours through the former military area. However, for safety reasons, entering the landscape off the beaten track is either restricted or completely prohibited.

Attractions

  • The Gothic parish church of St. Lawrence in Mukařov dates from 1450. It was renovated in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century and restored in 1866 and 2006.
  • A historic water mill is located above Vicmanov.
