Bílá Hlína with the water tower built in 1934

Bílá Hlína (German white glue ) with 107 inhabitants is one of the youngest and smallest communities in Okres Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic . The name is derived from the white clay that was mined here and supplied to pottery and brickworks.

geography

The village is located on a hill on both sides of the road to Mimoň , 5 kilometers from the town of Mnichovo Hradiště . Neighboring places are Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou , Ptýrov , Nová Ves u Bakova , Dolní Krupá , Rokytá and Horní Bukovina . About 780 of the 857 hectares of community area are covered by forest, the rest is used for agriculture.

history

Bílá Hlína was founded at the beginning of the 18th century. On former Country Estate here cottagers and small farmers settled who were under the rule in Mnichovo Hradiště and this until 1848 compulsory labor had to do. The first mention of the village name comes from the year 1712. In 1745 there were six houses. In 1850 the first official census recorded 39 house numbers with 289 inhabitants. Since then, the population has been falling continuously. On December 31, 1920, the village of Bílá Hlína belonging to Klášter Hradiště became an independent municipality after a reorganization of the administrative units. In 1938 a large part of the community area was added to the Sudetenland , only the village itself remained part of the rest of the Czech Republic and on March 15, 1939 was one of the first places occupied by the German army. After 1945 about a third of the population left the place and settled in the Czechoslovak border areas.

Around 1830, the robber Wenzel Babinsky was up to mischief in the area. In June 1866 fighting in the Austro-Prussian War took place nearby .
