Husí Lhota is a municipality with 131 inhabitants in Okres Mladá Boleslav , Czech Republic . The place is in the immediate vicinity of the district town of Mladá Boleslav , but away from major traffic routes. The residents work in agriculture or commute to work in the surrounding areas.

geography

The village is located on an agricultural plain south of the Bohemian Paradise . The neighboring municipalities are Kněžmost , Obrubce , Sukorady , Židněves and Dolní Stakory . Mladá Boleslav is seven kilometers to the west and the city of Sobotka is 12 kilometers to the east . The municipality consists of 189 hectares of arable land and 119 hectares of forest.

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1391. It was probably founded in the first half of the 14th century. Lhota is one of the most common place names in the Czech Republic. It is derived from the word lhůta (deadline) and indicates that settlers were assigned land here in the course of the country's expansion, for which they did not have to pay any services or taxes for a certain period of time. The first farm on site belonged to Markvart Fričkov von Daliměřice, a local landlord who owned a manor house in the nearby settlement of Valy. In 1498 Šimon Dalibor von Vodice sold the farm to the city of Mladá Boleslav. Husí Lhota remained in their ownership until 1848.

In addition to arable land and forests, the settlers managed a good dozen ponds and thus achieved modest prosperity. In 1501 they support the construction of the St. Gallus Church in Mladá Boleslav with donations and transport services. They also provided financial support to the Church of the Assumption at the end of the 16th century. During the Reformation, the inhabitants joined the Bohemian Brothers and after 1620, like the rest of the country , they felt the consequences of re-Catholicization . The Thirty Years' War also hit the place hard: When the imperial field marshal Baltasar von Marradas took up quarters with his staff in Husí Lhota, the village was plundered and the withdrawing Swedes burned it down completely.

In the first half of the 19th century, the residents of Husí Lhota got into a protracted dispute with their authorities. During the Napoleonic wars in 1808, the gentlemen from Mladá Boleslav confiscated the grain and fish from the ponds to feed the troops. The peasants demanded compensation and sought a lawsuit in 1827 which they won. The rule then began in 1828, allegedly due to lack of money, to sell and give away properties in the village to strangers. The existence of the old settlers was thereby endangered. The quarrel between the farmers and the authorities, later between the old and the new settlers, led to the appeal court in Prague and ended with imprisonment for the rebellious residents. The old farmers did not get their land back until 1848.

Husí Lhota has retained its purely rural character to this day. There are no significant industrial or commercial settlements and no expansion is planned. The residents either work in agriculture or commute to work in neighboring towns, most of them to Mladá Boleslav. Only in a forest area on the border with the municipality of Kněžmost does Škoda Auto operate an approximately three-kilometer test track that is not open to the public. A planned expansion at the beginning of this millennium failed due to resistance from nature conservation associations.

Attractions

  • The Chapel of St. Anna, built in Empire style from 1823, is the oldest building in the town. It received a separate bell house in 1862 and was rebuilt and expanded in 1908.
