geography

The municipality is located in one of the three specially protected areas of the Bohemian Paradise, between Kněžmost , Mnichovo Hradiště , Žďár and Kost Castle . The distance to Mnichovo Hradiště is 6 kilometers. The municipality is crossed by the small river Kněžmostka, which is dammed east of the village into the 54 hectare Komárovský rybník pond. The municipality consists of the three settlements Branžež, Nová Ves and Zakopaná.

history

Branžež was first mentioned in 1338. It belonged to small local landlords. Well-known owners are Marek and Mojek z Kamenice (1338), Petr z Branžeže (1401) and Jan Hovado z Hrádku (1457). In the 16th century the place was annexed to the Solec rule and came into the possession of the Lords of Valečov . Branžež remained part of this rule until the 20th century.

Originally there were three large fish ponds in the community . They were abandoned and in the middle of the 20th century only the largest of them, Komárovský rybník, was dammed again. From the 1930s, the place began to develop into a tourist center. Today there are several campsites and holiday home areas on the bank of the pond.

Attractions

  • Komárovský rybník is a shallow pond with a sandy bottom and sandy beaches, which is used for swimming, fishing and water sports. The water quality is fluctuating. In 2006 and 2007, temporary bathing bans were issued due to the increased occurrence of blue-green algae .
  • The protected area of the rock town of Příhrazské skály begins immediately north of the settlements .
  • There are some castles and castle ruins in the area. The castle Kost is located 5 kilometers east, rock castle Valečov about 2 kilometers west of the village Branžež.
