Gerhard de Jonge

Gerhard de Jonge (born June 22, 1875 in Emden , † May 1, 1945 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a German railway civil engineer and construction clerk as well as a university professor and temporarily rector at the Technical University of Danzig .

life and work

Gerhard de Jonge came on June 22, 1875 as the second son of the master painter Johannes de Jonge and his wife Hilkea born. Tooren in Emden to the world. Gerhard de Jonge initially worked as a government construction manager ( trainee lawyer ) in Berlin . In March 1901 he became the Regierungsbauführer in Schinkel competition from architect-Verein zu Berlin the association's honorary gift for a task in railway construction, were submitted to the 14 designs. The task was a connection between the Rhein-Nahe-Bahn and the right bank of the Rhine . In June 1901 he was appointed government builder ( Assessor ). In 1906 he was appointed Imperial Railway Construction and Operations Inspector in the administration of the Reich Railway in Alsace-Lorraine . He worked as a government master builder in Strasbourg in Alsace, then as head of the railway operations offices in Sarreguemines and Mulhouse in Alsace, from 1913 he worked at the rank of Imperial Building Councilor. From December 1914 until his death he was a full professor at the Technical University of Danzig (on the chair for railway construction - specializing in railway construction and operation). During the First World War , he was part-time director of railway safety at the Gdansk Railway Directorate . From July 1, 1923 to June 30, 1924 he was rector of the Technical University of Danzig. In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges .

Gerhard de Jonge died on May 1, 1945 in Brandenburg an der Havel.
