Dražice Castle
The Dražice Castle (German: Burg Draschitz ) is located two kilometers northeast of Benatek on a hill above the right bank of the Jizera ( Iser ) in Okres Mladá Boleslav , Czech Republic .
history
The castle, built by the Prague burgrave Gregor von Litowitz ( Řehník z Litovic ) in the middle of the 13th century, was first mentioned in 1264 as 'castrum Drazicz'. His son, the Prague bishop Johann IV of Dražice , extended the castle after his return from Avignon based on the model of French castles. He used French builders.
The Dražice castle and estate remained in the possession of the Dražice lords until the end of the 13th century . The next owner was Peter von Wartenberg , from 1402 Aleš Škopek from Dubá. 1437–1510 it was owned by the Lords of Kunwald. After the destruction by the troops of George von Podebrady in 1448, the castle was not rebuilt.
In 1512 Friedrich von Dohna acquired the rule with the castle ruins. In 1526 he moved the seat of power to Benatek. The castle has been uninhabited since the end of the 16th century.
