politics

Chibuto has been a municipality since 1998 with an elected municipal government. Francisco Barage Muchanga became the first President of the City Council (Conselho Municipal) in the 1998 election . He was followed by Francisco Chigongue in 2003 and Francisco Mandlate in 2008 . All three belong to the Frelimo .
