The Volkswagen Type 100 is a tractor unit from the Volkswagen factory that was built in small numbers immediately after the Second World War. Technically, it was based on the VW Type 82 , but had a shortened wheelbase.

After the Volkswagen factory was placed under English management, mainly off-road military versions of the Volkswagen rolled off the production line between 1945 and 1946 , including the VW Type 51, the Volkswagen with the chassis of the Kübelwagen Type 82 and the body of the civilian Volkswagen Type 11 . Such a type 51 vehicle was demonstrably converted into a semi-trailer. In 1945 Volkswagen then manufactured the type 100 tractor ex works, which had a shortened type 82 chassis, which reduced the wheelbase. Because of this, the rear fenders were pulled further forward, which required a recess in the doors. Like the Type 82, the machine had a countershaft at the rear . Simple seats from the VW Kübelwagen were installed in the interior, the doors had no crank windows but sliding windows, and door panels were also missing. In general, the VW Type 100 is considered a Spartan vehicle, which, however, was particularly useful as a tug immediately after the surrender of the German Reich and was more economical than other tugs. The French and British military used the VW Type 100 as a tractor.
