As early as the late 1980s, Lamborghini built an off-road vehicle with the LM002 .
production
At the end of September 2013, the then Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that the Urus would go into series production. At the International Motor Show in September 2017 in Frankfurt am Main , the new CEO Stefano Domenicali announced the launch of the Urus on December 4, 2017. The first vehicles were delivered in March 2018. In 2018, with 2565 vehicles produced, the Urus already made up 39% of total Lamborghini production. Every year around 3500 Urus are to be produced in Sant'Agata Bolognese .
background
The name Urus was chosen based on the aurochs .
technology
Although the Urus, like the Audi Q7 , the Bentley Bentayga and the Porsche Cayenne, is based on the modular longitudinal construction kit from Volkswagen AG , it weighs less than the other models thanks to the use of carbon parts. The Urus is powered by a four-liter V8 petrol engine . This has an output of 478 kW (650 PS) and accelerates the vehicle up to 305 km / h. Until the launch of the Bentayga Speed in spring 2019 , the Urus was the fastest mass-produced SUV in the world and the first Lamborghini model to be powered by a turbo engine. In the concept vehicle presented in 2012, the 5.2-liter naturally aspirated engine familiar from the Lamborghini Gallardo was used. A gasoline hybrid is to follow in 2019 . A variant with the powertrain of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is conceivable
