Stephan Ernst Winkelmann (born October 18, 1964 in Berlin ) is a German manager and has been President of Bugatti Automobiles SAS since January 1, 2018

Life and career

Winkelmann, whose father was a diplomat , moved with his parents from Berlin to Rome at the age of one . There he passed his Abitur at the local German School and began studying political science , which he later completed in Munich . During his studies Winkelmann served for two years in the paratrooper troops of the German armed forces and achieved the rank of lieutenant in the reserve .

His professional career began in 1991 with the German financial services provider MLP . Winkelmann soon got into the automotive industry , where he initially worked in Munich as a sales representative for Mercedes-Benz and then from 1994 to 2004 for Fiat and Alfa Romeo . There Winkelmann held positions in marketing and sales management , including as CEO of Fiat Auto Austria , Switzerland and Germany.

Stephan Winkelmann joined the Volkswagen Group in 2005 and took over the office of President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA in Sant'Agata Bolognese (Italy). In these functions, he built the brand into one of the world's leading manufacturers of super sports cars. For his successful work at Lamborghini, the Republic of Italy awarded him the Order of Merit of Grand Officer in 2010 and the Grand Cross, one of the highest orders of merit in the country, in 2014. From spring 2016 Stephan Winkelmann was Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH.

Stephan Winkelmann has been President of Bugatti Automobiles SAS since January 1, 2018

Awards

In December 2009 Winkelmann was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic Class Grand Officer ( Grande Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana ).

On May 22, 2014, Winkelmann received the next highest award ( Grand Cross ) of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
