NGC 1282 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4 in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 100 million light years from the Milky Way , about 35,000 ly in diameter, and is considered a member of the Perseus Cluster Abell 426 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1275 , NGC 1278 , NGC 1279 , NGC 1283 .
The object was discovered on October 23, 1884 by the astronomer Guillaume Bigourdan .
