NGC 1262 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 1.55 billion light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 415,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 1263 .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on November 12, 1885 .
