NGC 1259, a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 265 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. 
The galaxies NGC 1260 , NGC 1264 , IC 308 , IC 310 are located in the same area of the sky .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2008L was observed here.
The object was discovered by Guillaume Bigourdan on October 21, 1884 .
