NGC 1272 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Perseus the northern sky . It is an estimated 175 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 110,000 ly, and is a member of the Perseus cluster Abell 426 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1270 , NGC 1273 , NGC 1274 , NGC 1275 .
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on February 14, 1863 .
