NGC 1263 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 420 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 85,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 1262 .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on December 31, 1885 .
