NGC 1233 = NGC 1235 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 201 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 105,000 ly. Together with NGC 1207 and PGC 12070 , it forms the NGC 1207 group .
The supernovae SN 2009lj and SN 2017lf ( Type-Ia ) were observed here.
The object was discovered on December 10, 1871 by Édouard Stephan (listed as NGC 1233), and on October 21, 1886 by Lewis A. Swift (listed as NGC 1235).
