NGC 1225 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 401 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1221 , NGC 1223 , IC 1886 .
The property was discovered by Francis Leavenworth in 1886 .
