NGC 1234 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 165 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth in 1886 .
