NGC 1224 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 239 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1212 , IC 290 , IC 293 , IC 1883 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on August 20, 1885 .
