IC 300 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is an estimated 243 million light years away from the Milky Way , about 20,000 light years in diameter, and is a member of the Perseus Cluster Abell 426 . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1250 and IC 301 .
The astronomical object was discovered on September 15, 1888 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
