IC 313 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Perseus the northern sky . It is an estimated 203 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter .
In the same region of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1276 , NGC 1277 , NGC 1278 , IC 316 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 14, 1888 .
