IC 315 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type S in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 408 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 11, 1894 .
