IC 331 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Taurus on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 309 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter . 
The galaxies IC 329 and IC 330 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 4, 1891 .
