IC 349 , also known as Barnard's Merope Nebula (Engl. Barnard's Merope Nebula ), is a reflection nebula in the Pleiades . It was discovered by Edward Barnard in 1890 . It receives its light from the star Merope, only 0.06  light years  (30 " ) away .

IC  349 is not a remnant of the nebula from which Merope was formed, but an interstellar dust cloud that passes the star and is deformed by its radiation. The suspicion was expressed that IC 349 a fragment of the Taurus - Auriga - molecular cloud was.
