IC 343 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 79 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter . The galaxy is considered a member of the Eridanus Galaxy Cluster .
In the same region of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1394 , NGC 1402 , NGC 1407 , IC 345 .
The object was discovered by Frank Muller on October 14, 1887 .
