IC 357 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Taurus on the ecliptic . It is around 281 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 light years .
The object was discovered on January 1, 1867 by Truman H. Safford .
