Werner Scholz (journalist)

Werner Scholz (born November 30, 1930 in Steingrund ; † February 18, 2019 ) was a German journalist and party official ( SED ). From 1973 to 1989 he was editor-in-chief of the theoretical SED magazine Neuer Weg .

Life

Scholz was born the son of a miner in Silesia. After attending primary school, he completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk at the Teltow city ​​administration and then worked there in the profession. In 1948 he became a member of the Free German Youth (FDJ) and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1950 to 1952 he exercised the function of a secretary of the FDJ district leadership Teltow and 1952/53 that of the first secretary of the FDJ district leadership Zossen . After attending the SED district party school in 1953, he served from 1954 to 1956 as the second secretary of the SED district leadership in Nauen . He graduated from the “Karl Marx” party college in 1956/57 with a degree in social science . He then worked from 1958 to 1960 as second and from 1960 to 1964 as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Königs Wusterhausen . From 1964 to 1966 he studied at the Berlin School of Economics and finished his studies with a degree in economics. He was later promoted to Dr. oec. PhD . In 1966/67 he was initially an employee, from 1967 to 1973 sector manager, member of the editorial board and deputy editor-in-chief of the theoretical body of the Central Committee of the SED Neuer Weg . In December 1973 he succeeded Rudolf Wettengel as editor-in-chief of the magazine and in this function had the rank of department head of the Central Committee of the SED. He held this position until the publication was discontinued in December 1989.

On April 16, 1981 he was elected to the SED's Central Revision Commission at the 10th Party Congress of the SED and in April 1986 at the XI. Congress confirmed in this function.

Werner Scholz died at the age of 88.
