Laimonis Šēnbergs

Laimonis Šēnbergs (born March 31, 1947 in Jaunpiebalga ) is a Latvian poster artist and graphic designer .

Laimonis Šēnbergs completed his education at the School of Applied Arts in Riga in 1967 . Until 1972 he studied interior design at the Latvian Art Academy . Since 1967, Šēnbergs has participated in around 50 international posters and design exhibitions and in around 50 domestic art exhibitions. From 1972 to 1982 he was a member of the artists' collective Māksla . He has been artistic advisor to Latvijas Banka since 1993 and chairman of the State Heraldry Commission of the Republic of Latvia since 2003.

Laimonis Šēnbergs designed several coins for Latvijas Banka . His most famous designs outside of Latvia are the face of the Latvian euro coins at 1 to 5 cents with the small national coat of arms and at 10 to 50 cents with the large national coat of arms of Latvia.

  • 8 silver coins and a 10 Lati gold coin for the 800th anniversary of the founding of Riga (1995 to 1998);
  • 3 coins in the Coin of Time series of 1 lats made of silver and niobium (2004, 2007 and 2011);
  • 1 lats coin in silver and granite (2011);
  • Silver coin for 5 euros Kurland Baroque (2014);
  • Face of the Latvian currency coins from 1 cent to 50 cent (since 2014);
  • Silver coin worth 5 euros on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Latvia's independence (2018).
