Three star medal

The three-star order ( Latvian Triju Zvaigžņu ordenis ) was founded in 1924 by the Latvian President Jānis Čakste as the highest honor in the country and can be given to people for their special merits in the state, communal, social, cultural, scientific or economic field as well as in education and sports in five classes and a badge of honor in three levels ( gold , silver and bronze ) are awarded.

Classes

The order consists of five classes.

In addition to the Grand Cross, the medal, the highest distinction, can also be awarded with a collar .

Order decoration

The medal is a white enameled , gold-rimmed Maltese cross with small spheres on the cross tips. There are small rays between the cross angles. Three golden stars can be seen in the round, enamelled cobalt blue medallion . In the medallion on the back there is a three-line inscription with the date of the declaration of independence LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA 1918. G. 18 NOVEMBRIS  ((Latvian Republic 18 November 1918).) The surrounding gold circlet contains the inscription PER ASPERA AD ASTRA .

The diameter of the order is 40 mm for knights and officers, 49 mm for commanders and grand officers, 54 mm for grand crosses.

Carrying method

The grand cross is carried on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip and with a ten-pointed breast star . Grand officers and commanders wear a neck medal. Grand officers also have a simple breast star that represents the medal. Officers and knights decorate the medal on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.
