Alexander Nagel

Alexander Rudolf Walther Nagel (born July 10, 1925 in Pforzheim ; † March 23, 2012 in Dossenheim ) was a German architect and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

Coming from middle-class Protestant parents, Alexander Nagel was the eldest son of the couple Clare Nagel, née. Amolsch and the economics teacher Dr. Hermann Nagel (1892-1970). After attending the Kurfürst-Friedrich Gymnasium in Heidelberg , he received his secondary school diploma in 1943 when he entered labor and military service . He was wounded in 1945 and was taken prisoner of war until 1946. He began studying law and political science at the University of Heidelberg and architecture and urban planning at the University of Karlsruhe , which he completed by taking the 1st and 2nd state examinations as a government architect . After working in various cities in North Baden in the state building administration, he was deputy from 1966. Head of the State Building Construction Office I in Heidelberg. In February 1969 he was appointed head of the State Building Department II (special building department) Heidelberg. Until his retirement in September 1990, he was responsible for the supervision and construction of over 2,800 buildings in North Baden, including the new building for the Federal Academy for Defense Administration and Technology in Mannheim.

His political career began in 1949 when he joined the Young Democrats , and he was elected district chairman for North Baden in 1950. In 1952 he became a member of the FDP; from 1964 he was chairman of the FDP district association Heidelberg-Land and from 1965 district councilor and parliamentary group chairman of the Rhein-Neckar district council and member of the Dossenheim municipal council. In 1968 he was elected as a member of the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden in the state constituency of Heidelberg -Land . In the 5th electoral term he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, after his re-election for the 6th electoral period he was 1st deputy parliamentary group leader of the FDP in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. He was involved there as a member of the cultural policy committee, the petitions committee and the finance committee.
