IC 1879 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation Horologium in the southern sky . It is an estimated 553 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of about 100,000 light years.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on December 5, 1899 .
