IC 1861 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 303 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years across.
The type II supernova SN 1999eg was observed here.
The object was discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard .
