IC 1843 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 304 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years across.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1085 , IC 1834 , IC 1836 , IC 1844 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 18, 1897 .
