IC 1853 is a faint spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is around 183 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 55,000 light years . It probably forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 1103 .
In the same area of the sky there is still u. a. the galaxy NGC 1120 .
The object was discovered by Herbert Howe on January 23, 1900 .
