KV Velorum is a double star in the constellation Vela at a distance of about 2500  light years . The system consists of a hot sub- dwarf of the spectral class sdO, which forms the bright component, and a main sequence star as a companion. The hot sub-dwarf creates strong reflections on the companion's star surface, making the system one of a relatively rare class of rotationally variable stars . The system will likely evolve into a cataclysmic system . Furthermore, the system is surrounded by a planetary nebula .
