IC 1819 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 287 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 135,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 18, 1897 .
